PANEL NUTS
Panel Nuts are mostly used on fastening electrical wire switches. The Panel Nut is a flat, hexagonal nut that has a large threaded hole in the middle.
The thinness of the Panel Nut allows it to fasten small objects in a relative tight space.
The hexagonal sides made for a wrench to fasten it. There is another type of Panel Nut that is round with knurled serrations on the outer diameter.
Panel Nuts, unlike the Hex or Flange Nuts, are usually not fit for large, strength-required objects.
The common materials used to make Panel Nuts are carbon steel, stainless steel, brass, and aluminum.
The common finish for the carbon steel is the zinc coating.
